Indian Energy, in partnership with the Viejas Tribes, the California Energy Commission (CEC), and the Department of Energy (DOE), are developing a behind-the-meter microgrid with 15MW of solar and 70MWh of Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES) battery storage. This groundbreaking initiative will provide the Viejas with renewable and resilient energy for their commercial operations. Maada’oozh is providing engineering, procurement, logistics, commissioning and maintenance services for this project. The VEM Project is currently in construction and will go online in 2024.
This is a true social and environmental justice project that is serving the Tribe, workforce development, community benefits, and equity for Native Americans. This is a huge win for Indian Country.
